Privacy Summary at a Glance
ScoutWise is built from the ground up to respect user privacy. We do not track your browsing history, we do not require account registration or personal credentials, and we do not sell or monetize personal data. ScoutWise only activates when you voluntarily choose to highlight product text and request an analysis.
1 Information We Do NOT Collect
To ensure complete consumer privacy, ScoutWise operates with strict zero-collection boundaries:
- No Browsing History: We do not track, log, or store URLs you visit or web pages you browse.
- No Personal Identifiers: We do not ask for or collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses.
- No Financial Data: We never access or collect credit card numbers, payment details, or checkout information.
- No Third-Party Analytics Trackers: We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixels, Mixpanel, cookies, or third-party behavioral fingerprinting.
2 Information We Process and How It Is Used
ScoutWise only processes data that is strictly necessary to fulfill your real-time shopping analysis requests:
- User-Initiated Product Text: When you highlight a product title or specification on a shopping page and click "Scout this", that selected snippet is sent to our backend API solely to perform price target calculations, coupon verification, and alternative product discovery.
- Ephemeral In-Memory Processing: Product analysis queries are processed in serverless memory. Highlighted snippets and analysis queries are never stored in persistent user databases or tied to personal profiles.
- Local Browser Storage: All tracked items and target prices are stored 100% locally in
chrome.storage.localon the user's device. No browsing history or personal tracking data is transmitted to external servers.
3 Browser Permissions Justification
ScoutWise requests minimal, clearly defined permissions in Google Chrome Manifest V3:
Allows ScoutWise to display verdict scores, market ranges, and alternative cards in Chrome's native side panel without covering the website content.
Allows your browser to store user preferences and watchlist targets strictly on your local device via chrome.storage.local.
Used solely to schedule periodic background checks for saved price-drop items stored locally on your device without running persistent background processes.
Used exclusively to alert you with a desktop notification when a product on your local price watchlist drops to or below your target price.
Allows ScoutWise to extract the text you highlight only when you click "Scout this".
4 Affiliate Links & Referral Disclosure
Some merchant links displayed in ScoutWise recommendations may be affiliate links. If you click on an alternative recommendation and make a purchase on a merchant site, ScoutWise may earn a small referral commission at zero additional cost to you.
Affiliate relationships never influence our algorithm, deal strength scores, fair-price calculations, or product rankings. Our recommendations are generated objectively based on market benchmarks and pricing data.
5 Third-Party Websites & Zero Liability
ScoutWise provides direct navigation links to third-party online retailers. When you click a retailer link and navigate to an external website, your activity is governed by that third party's privacy policy and terms of service. ScoutWise assumes no responsibility or liability for third-party websites, their tracking mechanisms, or transactions conducted on their platforms.
